Understanding Endodontics: Saving Teeth with Root Canal Therapy

Endodontics is a branch of dentistry that focuses on the internal components of the tooth. At the heart of the tooth is the dental pulp, housed in a space called the canal (hence the name "root canal"). When the pulp is damaged, infected, or dead, the nerve damage can cause severe pain.

An endodontic procedure such as a root canal removes the affected pulp instead of removing the tooth. Your dentist will explain the procedure and what steps to take in the days following the procedure.
